Macron sends French military reinforcements to Middle East
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, announced on Tuesday that he is sending military reinforcements to the Middle East, where the United States and Israel are carrying out attacks against Iran, AFP reports, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
“I have ordered the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle, its air wing and its escorting frigates to head toward the Mediterranean,” the head of state said in a televised address.
He added that French forces have also deployed Rafale fighter jets, air defense systems and airborne radar assets to the region in recent hours.
The frigate Languedoc and additional air defense systems were sent to Cyprus, where the British air base at Akrotiri was attacked on Monday by an Iranian drone.
Macron revealed that two French military bases had suffered “limited strikes causing material damage” amid the conflict surrounding Iran.
France also shot down several drones “in legitimate self-defense” during the first hours of the American-Israeli attacks and the subsequent Iranian retaliatory strikes in neighboring countries hosting U.S. military bases.
