Palm Beach Airport set to bear Donald Trump’s name
Palm Beach International Airport in Florida will soon be renamed after U.S. President Donald Trump, following the adoption of a bill by state lawmakers where the Republican leader’s private residence is located, AFP reports.
The billionaire real estate magnate, whose name already appears on numerous buildings across the United States, continues his goal of leaving his mark on the country through an unprecedented communication and construction campaign, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
The Florida House of Representatives and Senate, both controlled by Republicans, approved a bill to rename Palm Beach International Airport as “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
The airport, located in Palm Beach — a town known for its beaches and large luxury estates — is just a few kilometers from the president’s residence, Mar-a-Lago.
Governor Ron DeSantis, a former opponent of Trump, is expected to sign the measure, although approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is still required.
The airport would then join a list of buildings and infrastructure bearing Trump’s name.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, an arts complex established as a memorial to former President John F. Kennedy in Washington, was renamed “Trump-Kennedy Center” in December by its board of directors.
According to U.S. media, President Trump also attempted to rename Penn Station and Washington Dulles International Airport. These initiatives were rejected.
According to several media outlets, including CNN and NBC, citing anonymous sources, Trump proposed to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer the release of more than $16 billion in federal funds frozen by his administration if Schumer agreed to help rename the station and the airport.
The funds are primarily intended for a major rail tunnel project between New York and New Jersey. Schumer rejected the offer, and New York Representative Jerry Nadler denounced the move as an attempt at “extortion.”
