Serbia risks EU path reversal, says Marta Kos
European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said that the vote in the Serbian parliament to limit the independence of the judiciary is a serious step backward on Serbia’s path toward the EU.
In a post on X, she added that Serbia risks moving in the opposite direction at a time when Montenegro and Albania are advancing toward EU membership, CE Report informs.
“The vote of Serbia’s Parliament to limit the independence of the judiciary is a serious step back on Serbia's EU path. At a time of great progress for enlargement, when Montenegro and Albania are moving fast, Serbia risks taking the opposite direction. This is not what we want,” she wrote.
The Serbian Parliament, controlled by the majority of President Aleksandar Vučić, approved a package of laws limiting the independence of the judiciary.
