No survivors after aircraft crashes in Colombia

Fifteen people, including Member of the House of Representatives Diogenes Quintero Amaya, lost their lives in the crash of a small aircraft in Colombia.

North Santander Secretary for Citizen Security George Quintero told Noticias Caracol television that the wreckage of the aircraft was found by farmers in the village of Curasica, part of the municipality of La Playa, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

Quintero emphasized that 13 passengers and 2 crew members died in the crash and said that numerous search and rescue teams had been dispatched to the area.

North Santander Governor William Villamizar told local media: “Unfortunately, we must report that the small aircraft was found in the upper part of a protected area in the municipality of La Playa. We have received the first images and it appears there are no survivors. Seven bodies have been recovered and searches are continuing for the others.”

Among those who lost their lives was Diogenes Quintero Amaya, a member of the House of Representatives known as the voice of migration victims in the Catatumbo region.

The Beech 1900D aircraft, operated by Satena, a company belonging to Colombia’s state airline, disappeared from radar near the town of La Playa de Belén in the North Santander region.

It was reported that the plane was heading to the city of Ocaña, also in the North Santander administrative region, and was scheduled to land at 12:10 p.m. local time under normal conditions.
