Moldova showcases EU reform advances at Nicosia event
President Maia Sandu took part today in the official opening of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The event, hosted by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, brought together several high-level officials, including the President of the European Council, António Costa, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In discussions with European leaders, the head of state reiterated the Republic of Moldova’s firm commitment to continuing the reforms it has undertaken and подчеркed that the country remains a credible partner that has demonstrated resilience and a clear European choice, and is ready for the next stages of the EU accession process, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES.
In 2025, the Republic of Moldova recorded significant progress on its European path: it launched technical discussions with the European Commission on three of the six negotiation clusters for accession, accelerated reforms in justice and public administration, strengthened institutional capacities, continued aligning national legislation with the EU acquis, and completed the screening process. Cooperation with EU institutions has also intensified, while EU support has been reflected in investments, development projects, and measures to strengthen economic and energy resilience. At the same time, implementation of the Growth Plan for Moldova has begun.
As reported by CE Report, on the sidelines of the event, the head of state also met with President Zelenskyy, with discussions focusing on regional security, efforts toward lasting peace on the continent, bilateral cooperation, and the European integration processes of both countries.
