Serbian students say protest movement enters ‘concrete phase’

Students from faculties in Novi Sad have announced a protest rally in Novi Sad, Serbia, for January 17.

They emphasized in a video posted on social media that their struggle will now take a concrete form, CE Report quotes MIA.

Under the slogan “What does victory mean?”, the students say: “On January 17, we will see each other in Novi Sad.”

Stating that they did not know what awaited them when they began this struggle, the students stressed that since then they have been building togetherness — during blockades, in moments of joy, and in times of difficulty.

“We did not fall apart; instead, we built unity. Through effort and work, we gained trust, and the energy that accumulated throughout 2025 is now taking on a new form. What follows is the concretization of our struggle,” the students said in a video posted on the Instagram page of the ‘Student Chamber’, the official page of students in blockade at the Novi Sad Faculty of Law.

Previously, on December 28, students across Serbia collected around 400,000 signatures in support of calling snap parliamentary elections, which is their main demand in the protests following November 1, 2024, and the collapse of a concrete canopy at the Novi Sad railway station, in which 16 people were killed and one was seriously injured.

The students told citizens that the previous year, however difficult it may have been, was also special — a thank-you to each of them — and filled with moments of solidarity, courage, and humanity.

“Be proud of yourselves, because you marked it with sacrifice, dedication, and love, and played an important role in changing the society we are building together,” the students said.
