Hatzidakis announced that the government is developing a National Water Plan to address shortages, citing the worsening impact of the climate crisis, particularly in the Mediterranean. Greece currently ranks 19th globally in water scarcity risk.
Since 2019, over 200 related projects have been completed, with more than 1,000 underway. Hatzidakis called for centralized management, new technologies, and inspiration from successful models like desalination in Cyprus and Israel.
“The National Water Plan will be a major reform,” he said, “fulfilling our duty to future generations.”
