CEC Disqualifies Bolduresti Candidate

Politics

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has annulled the registration of Nicanor Ciochina, an independent candidate for mayor of Bolduresti commune in Moldova’s Nisporeni district, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

The decision followed a complaint by rival candidate Sergiu Bulicanu, who accused Ciochina of failing to suspend himself from his interim mayoral duties during the campaign and misusing administrative resources for electoral gain.

CEC found that Ciochina, appointed interim mayor in June, continued performing official duties while campaigning, violating Moldova’s Electoral Code. The commission concluded that this constituted a clear conflict of interest and undermined electoral fairness.

The case will be referred to the Interior Ministry for further review and possible action.

As a result, polling stations in Bolduresti must mark Ciochina as "Withdrawn" on all ballots and voting documents before the July 20 runoff election.
