Romania to Release Report on Russian Disinformation

Politics

President Nicusor Dan on Friday welcomed NATO and the EU’s condemnation of Russian influence in European countries, including Romania. Speaking after a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Dan highlighted the significance of the joint statement, which addressed interference in Romania’s elections, CE Report quotes AGERPRES

He announced that Romania will soon release a report detailing manipulation and disinformation efforts attributed to Russia. The report will cover both cyberattacks—documented in special reports by the STS—and broader campaigns involving fake news and misinformation aimed at undermining democratic processes.

“This influence is especially concerning for countries near the EU’s eastern border,” Dan noted, emphasizing the need for transparency and national awareness.

Earlier on Friday, Romania’s Foreign Ministry reported that NATO and the EU had denounced hostile cyber operations carried out by entities linked to Russia’s military intelligence service, the GRU, targeting multiple member states.
