Moldova Restricts Messaging During Elections

Politics

Government spokesperson Daniel Voda announced today that from July 14, 2025, until the Constitutional Court confirms the parliamentary election results, public communication will be adjusted in line with the Electoral Code and the Central Electoral Commission’s (CEC) regulations, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES

During this period, only CEC-approved public interest messages may be aired by broadcasters and advertising distributors. These messages must originate from public sector institutions or registered non-commercial organizations and should promote democratic values, inform citizens about elections or referendums, and explain how to exercise electoral rights.

Public authorities intending to conduct opinion polls must also seek CEC approval.

Voda emphasized the government’s commitment to transparency and legal compliance, stating that it will coordinate all major communication activities with the CEC to ensure fairness and balance.

Moldovan citizens will head to the polls on September 28 to elect members of parliament. The official electoral period began on July 14 and will continue until the election results are validated.

During this time, electoral bodies will be formed, candidates registered, officials trained, and voters informed, while ballot papers and materials are prepared.
