Androulakis Supports Crete Amid Migration Crisis
Main opposition leader Nikos Androulakis on Monday expressed his support for Crete, which has faced increased migration flows in recent weeks. He criticized the suspension of asylum processing as a “mockery” and noted most migrants come from Egypt and Bangladesh. Androulakis urged leveraging bilateral agreements to speed up repatriation and promote legal migration to meet labor needs.
Highlighting government diplomatic failures, he pointed to Libyan leader Khalifa Haftar’s role in exploiting migrant waves against Greece. On the proposal for a closed migrant facility in Crete, Androulakis said it should not be prioritized given the uncertain duration of the crisis.
