Israel Eases Gaza Aid After EU Talks
Israel has agreed to a set of urgent humanitarian measures aimed at easing the crisis in the Gaza Strip, following what the EU described as “constructive dialogue” between the two sides, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced Thursday, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
The measures include a major increase in aid truck entries, the opening of new crossing points in northern and southern Gaza, and the resumption of aid routes via Jordan and Egypt. Israel will also facilitate food distribution through bakeries and public kitchens, restart limited fuel deliveries for humanitarian use, and support the restoration of key infrastructure, such as power for water desalination.
Kallas emphasized that aid must reach civilians directly and that safeguards would be in place to prevent diversion to Hamas. Protection for humanitarian workers is also among the planned steps.
The EU reaffirmed its call for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all remaining hostages, supporting ongoing mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the US.
Meanwhile, Hamas has indicated readiness to release 10 hostages to advance ceasefire negotiations. The conflict has killed nearly 57,700 Palestinians, most of them women and children, since October 2023, with Israel facing international legal scrutiny for its actions in Gaza.
