
Mitsotakis Supports Mount Athos
During a visit to Mount Athos on Friday, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called the monastic state a “luminous centre of spiritual offering” and a “compass in a world that often loses its orientation.” Speaking at the Holy Church of the Protaton in Karyes, he affirmed the government’s continued support for the spiritual community, announcing projects worth €100 million by 2030, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
These plans include monastery restoration, relic preservation, environmental protection, and improved access for pilgrims. Mitsotakis emphasized Mount Athos's enduring religious and cultural significance, both nationally and globally.
He also noted ongoing concerns about security and modern challenges, highlighting the need for Athos's spiritual voice in today’s uncertain world.
