Trump Pushes GOP on Tax Bill

Politics

Former President Donald Trump on Thursday urged House Republicans to back his sweeping tax and spending bill, warning that delays are costing them politically, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

“Largest Tax Cuts in History and a Booming Economy vs. Biggest Tax Increase in History, and a Failed Economy. What are the Republicans waiting for???” Trump posted online, adding, “MAGA IS NOT HAPPY, AND IT’S COSTING YOU VOTES!!!”

The House is currently voting on the Senate-approved bill, aiming to send it to Trump’s desk by Friday. The vote stands at 207–217, with five Republican defections and eight undecided.

House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged to keep the vote open "as long as it takes" to secure the necessary support.

The Senate narrowly passed the bill 51–50 on Tuesday, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote.

Democrats have strongly opposed the legislation, which includes deep cuts to healthcare and nutrition programs while adding $3.4 trillion to the national debt.

“All we need are four Republicans – just four – to show John-McCain-level courage,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, calling the bill “unconscionable” and “un-American.”
