Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended condolences on Thursday following a devastating plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, that claimed at least 265 lives, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
"On behalf of the Turkish Nation, I extend my condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the plane crash in Ahmedabad, India, and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," Erdogan said on X.
Indian Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that only one person survived the crash of UK-bound Air India Flight 171, which was carrying 230 passengers and 12 crew. The plane reportedly crashed into a medical college hostel, killing several residents as well.
Shah noted that the aircraft carried around 125,000 liters of fuel and the intense fire left “no chance” for rescue. The final death toll will be confirmed after DNA identification.
The airline reported that passengers included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.
