
Greece Eyes EU Budget, Infrastructure Goals
The Government Council for Economic Policy, chaired by Deputy Premier Kostis Hatzidakis, met Monday to discuss the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028–2034 and Greece’s key infrastructure plans, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Ministers focused on MFF priorities significant to Greece—competitiveness, defense, cohesion, and the Common Agricultural Policy. The final phase of MFF negotiations will occur during Greece’s EU presidency in early 2027.
Progress was also reviewed on major infrastructure projects. Completion timelines include: Patras-Pyrgos highway (end of 2025), E65 (May 2026), Thessaloniki flyover (May 2027), and Athens-Thessaloniki rail line (summer 2026, post-flood repairs). Projects starting this year include the Chania-Heraklio section of the Crete highway and Athens-Crete power grid connection. The Cyclades will be fully integrated into the national grid by 2026. Fiber optic expansion (FTTH) is also ongoing.
High-ranking officials from multiple ministries and agencies attended the meeting.
