La Liga President sharply criticized FIFA President over World Cup remarks
La Liga President Javier Tebas has sharply criticized FIFA President Gianni Infantino following the latter's comments defending the organization of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Infantino published a message on FIFA's official website and social media channels in which he criticized those who have voiced concerns about the tournament, saying they were consumed by hatred. He urged critics to reflect, pray or watch a football match to find peace. He also stated that the tournament was held without incidents and under complete security, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
His remarks sparked widespread reactions, with Tebas describing the message as "pathetic." He stressed that transparency, good governance and accountability are not expressions of hatred but fundamental obligations of any institution.
"If a leader devotes an entire message to discrediting those who ask legitimate questions, it is inevitable to ask: why now? Is there something that explains such a defensive tone?" Tebas wrote on social media platform X.
Meanwhile, U.S. Congressman Jamie Raskin has launched an investigation into Infantino, requesting documents related to the relationship between FIFA and U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to international media reports, the investigation aims to examine issues related to transparency and governance within FIFA, while also looking into allegations of close ties between Infantino and the Trump administration.
