North Macedonia’s EU Dreams Backed by Sweden
As part of a working visit to Stockholm, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Timcho Mucunski, has met with Sweden's Minister for European Affairs, Jessica Rosencrantz. Talks focused on the country's European integration process, Sweden's support in the process, as well as the country's reform processes, CE Report quotes MIA.
Mucunski extended gratitude for Sweden's ongoing and principled support for the European Union enlargement process, particularly noting efforts towards full accession of North Macedonia and the other Western Balkan countries. He highlighted Sweden's commitment to the enlargement policy as a key factor for the integration of the region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade said in a press release.
"Macedonian integration in the EU and the challenges on that path were in the focus of discussions. Minister Mucunski reiterated the necessity for bilateral issues not to be an obstacle to progress, pointing out that the process should be exclusively merit-based. Several current issues of importance for the Union were also discussed," reads the press release.
Minister Rosencrantz stressed that Sweden remains a firm supporter of North Macedonia’s EU accession process and encourages continued reform efforts.
As part of the visit, Minister Mucunski also met with Swedish State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Håkan Jevrell.
"Talks focused on promoting economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, investment opportunities in the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as addressing current economic challenges. Minister Mucunski underscored the benefits of investing in North Macedonia, with a special emphasis on the automotive, defence and pharmaceutical industries, presenting them as key sectors with serious investment potential. Interlocutors also discussed concrete steps that would contribute to attracting new Swedish investments, with an emphasis on the need for joint efforts in promoting trade and economic cooperation," the press release adds.
