India Can't Replace China Yet

Politics

India is not positioned to replace China in US trade in the short term, even as Washington looks to shift supply chains, experts told Anadolu. Despite remarks from US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about potential trade deals with India, analysts stress that India's current infrastructure and legal systems can't yet match China's manufacturing capabilities, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Sant Manukyan of IS Investment noted that while long-term strategic shifts may occur, India's near-term substitution of China is unrealistic. He also pointed out geopolitical considerations, saying the US may aim to keep India aligned amid rising China-Russia ties.

Economist Filiz Eryilmaz added that Washington’s broader goal appears to be curbing China’s technological rise, particularly in AI. While India stands to benefit, it will struggle to fill the void left by China in sectors like textiles and automotive in the near future.
