Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu celebrated NATO Day and the 21st anniversary of Romania's NATO accession, highlighting Romania's membership as the "strongest guarantee of security," especially amidst the ongoing Russian aggression in Ukraine, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Ciolacu emphasized that NATO, the world's most powerful political-military alliance, has provided Romania with vital security since its accession in 2004. Romania has consistently proven to be a reliable ally, playing an important role in regional security and shaping NATO policies.

He also pointed out Romania’s growing influence within the alliance, including the establishment of the Aegis Ashore missile defense system at Deveselu, which enhances Europe's defense capabilities.

In 2025, Romania will continue to allocate at least 2% of its GDP to defense, with potential increases to strengthen its military capabilities. Ciolacu thanked all those who have contributed to Romania's successful NATO journey and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to enhancing collective defense and NATO’s strategic goals.

Happy 21st anniversary to Romania in NATO and to the North Atlantic Alliance!
