EU Summit Focuses on Defence, Migration, and Cyprus

At the European Council meeting in Brussels, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized key issues on the EU agenda, including European defence, migration, and Cyprus' reunification, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Mitsotakis welcomed the UN Secretary-General's presence and praised the progress of the Geneva conference, where Cyprus and Greece maintained momentum toward reunification. He also expressed satisfaction with the appointment of a UN envoy to continue the talks.

On European defence, Mitsotakis highlighted the European Commission's white paper, which includes proposals backed by Greece, such as budget flexibility for defence investments and a €150 billion fund to strengthen the EU's strategic autonomy.

Finally, the Prime Minister addressed migration, supporting the EU's proposed returns regulation aligned with Greece’s stance. He emphasized the importance of returning those without asylum and called for swift implementation of European regulatory tools to support this policy.
