Politics

US President Donald Trump will announce new reciprocal tariffs at a press conference in the Oval Office on Thursday, he wrote on Truth Social, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

“THREE GREAT WEEKS, PERHAPS THE BEST EVER, BUT TODAY IS THE BIG ONE: RECIPROCAL TARIFFS!!!” Trump posted.

The decision follows an executive order imposing a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on Chinese goods. Additionally, the US has placed a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum imports.

Canada has responded with a 25% levy on US imports, while Brazil has refrained from retaliation. Tariffs on Canada and Mexico are temporarily paused for 30 days, starting Feb. 4.

The move fulfills a campaign promise to protect US industries but risks escalating global trade tensions.
