Poland Eyes SMRs for Future Energy Mix

Poland

During a speech in Świerk, near Warsaw, where Poland’s only research nuclear reactor “Maria” was recently restarted, Deputy Climate Minister Miłosz Motyka announced ongoing work on a national roadmap for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

SMRs, still under development in countries like Canada, are seen as a faster and more affordable way to produce nuclear energy, though at lower output than conventional plants. Poland aims to use them to help decarbonise heat generation, CE Report quotes PAP

Motyka stated that Poland could integrate SMRs into its energy grid by 2040 and highlighted the country’s ambition to become a key player in nuclear energy, especially in SMR deployment.
