Russian drones attack Poland
“There is an ongoing operation concerning multiple violations of airspace” by Russia, and “the military has used weapons against targets” identified as drones, said Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on X, CE Report quotes ANSA.
“Operations are underway to locate the downed objects,” the Polish Armed Forces announced, as reported by international media. Tusk is “present at the scene of the operations,” declared Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz added that the Territorial Defense Forces had been activated for “ground searches of downed drones.”
Last night, Polish authorities temporarily closed Warsaw Chopin Airport and placed the country’s air defenses on maximum alert following reports of Russian drones repeatedly entering Polish airspace during a wave of overnight airstrikes against Ukraine. The Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces stated that all necessary procedures had been activated to protect national airspace and that Polish and NATO aircraft had been scrambled in response to the potential threat. “During today’s Russian attacks on targets in Ukraine, Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by drone-like objects,” the Polish Air Force said. “Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems have reached maximum alert status,” and an operation is underway to locate and neutralize the drones. Authorities urged residents of the Podlachia, Masovia, and Lublin provinces to remain indoors.
Today, the Polish army denounced an “act of aggression,” with more than ten flying objects detected by radar during a Russian attack on western Ukraine. “As a result of today’s attack by the Russian Federation on Ukrainian territory, there was an unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects. This is an act of aggression that created a real threat to the security of our citizens,” the Operational Command of the Polish army stressed in a statement on X.
