Netherlands pushes EU to pressure Hungary over Ukraine aid

The Netherlands supports increasing pressure on Hungary so that the European Union can adopt a joint decision on financial support for Ukraine.

Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen said this ahead of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on Monday, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.

"Unfortunately, this decision is not yet visible on the horizon, but you can be sure that we, as the Netherlands, will also do our part to increase the pressure again today. Because a decision on this issue is extremely necessary. Ukraine needs our support," he said.

According to Berendsen, "all options are on the table, but our approach is precisely to increase pressure on Hungary so that a decision is ultimately adopted."

Earlier, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that Hungary must adhere to the decisions already approved by its leader last December and should not block the EUR 90 billion loan for Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron said earlier that the EU leaders' promise of a EUR 90 billion loan for Ukraine would be fulfilled even if Hungary blocks the first disbursements.
