Macron condemns attack on French forces in Iraq
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that a French soldier was killed and several others were wounded in an attack near Erbil in Iraq.
In a statement posted on his account on the social media platform of the U.S.-based company X, Macron said that Warrant Officer Arnaud Frion from the French battalion was killed and that several other soldiers were injured, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
Macron said, “This attack on our forces who have been fighting against ISIS since 2015 is unacceptable.”
He stressed that France’s military presence in Iraq is entirely part of counter-terrorism efforts and that the conflict in the region cannot justify such attacks.
