
Poland Prepares for Presidential Election
Poland is set to elect a new president for a five-year term, with voting taking place this Sunday. If no candidate wins an outright majority, a runoff will be held on June 1, CE Report quotes PAP
Over 28.9 million citizens are eligible to vote across 32,143 polling stations, including 511 abroad and five on ships. Thirteen candidates are running—two of them women—with ages ranging from 38 to 76.
An election silence period banning campaign activity and poll publication is in effect until voting ends at 9pm Sunday, with violations punishable by fines up to PLN 1 million (EUR 238,000).
Exit poll results will be released shortly after voting closes. Official results are expected late Monday or Tuesday, May 20.
