
Moldovan President Maia Sandu Attends 80th Anniversary of Auschwitz Liberation
On January 27, President Maia Sandu of Moldova will participate in the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. The event, hosted at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, will bring together over 30 world leaders to honor the memory of Holocaust victims, according to the presidential press service, CE Report quotes MOLDPRES
The program includes testimonies from Holocaust survivors, highlighting the horrors they endured to preserve the memory of these atrocities and promote lessons for humanity. President Sandu’s attendance reaffirms Moldova’s commitment to preserving Holocaust memory, advocating for human rights, mutual respect, and peace.
Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi concentration and extermination camp, claimed over a million lives, predominantly Jews, along with Poles, Roma, and others. Designated as International Holocaust Remembrance Day by the UN in 2005, January 27 remains a symbol of the Holocaust's atrocities and a call to remember history.
In Chișinău, a commemoration event for Holocaust victims will be held, attended by Speaker Igor Grosu and other officials.
