Michelle Obama Opens Up on Life, Therapy, Turning 60
Michelle Obama has confessed that she is in therapy and spoke about it with her brother, Craig Robinson, in a podcast, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The former First Lady explained that their parents created a “safe space” during their upbringing, similar to what therapy offers, and that she has sought something similar with family and close friends.
“I believe in the power of sharing your challenges with people you trust, and that this can take many forms — and that’s what it’s been like for me,” she said. “I believe in couples therapy, I believe in all of it. Whatever works for you,” she added.
As for individual therapy, she sought it out because she believes “we need guidance throughout life, and I think therapy is a form of coaching.”
“At this stage of my life, I’m in therapy right now because I’m going through a transition,” said the Becoming author.
“I’m 60 years old. I’ve come through a very difficult period of my life with my family intact. I’m a woman with an empty nest,” she said, referring to the fact that her two daughters now live and study away from home.
“Now, for the first time, as I’ve said, every choice I make is completely mine. I don’t have the excuse of ‘Well, my kids need this, or my husband needs that, or the country needs that,’” she explained.
