Bryan Cranston mourns Breaking Bad co-star RJ Mitte
Bryan Cranston said he was “deeply heartbroken” following the death of actor RJ Mitte, who played his son in the television series Breaking Bad, DPA and PA Media report.
The death of the 34-year-old actor was announced by his representatives on Monday, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
Mitte rose to fame for his role as Walter White Jr. in the Emmy-winning series Breaking Bad and used his public profile to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities. The actor had cerebral palsy.
In an emotional message posted on Instagram, Cranston said they had exchanged messages in recent weeks and had planned to meet.
“I am deeply heartbroken as I write these words. RJ Mitte, my dear son from Breaking Bad, has died.”
“I met him when he was just 14 years old and was cast as Walter White Jr., a role he played with great joy and enthusiasm.”
“He was born with cerebral palsy, but never — never — used it as an excuse for anything.”
“He handled the demanding filming schedule brilliantly, with great determination,” Cranston continued.
“He always listened to the advice his on-screen parents (Anna Gunn and me) gave him — but, like any teenager, he would sometimes mischievously ignore our advice to learn things the hard way... He was one of the stars of a successful television series... but he was still a kid.”
Mitte, whose real name was Roy Frank Mitte III, was an actor and producer who began his entertainment career with minor roles in sitcoms such as Everybody Hates Chris and Hannah Montana.
He rose to fame in 2008 after landing a leading role in Breaking Bad, in which he played the son of Walter White, a chemistry teacher who transforms into a drug kingpin.
Mitte first appeared in the series at the age of 15 and remained part of the cast until the show ended in 2013, alongside Hollywood stars including Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Bob Odenkirk and Dean Norris.
Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, a drug user who becomes a drug dealer, said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter: “I am at a loss for words. This news has devastated me. RJ, I love you, my friend. We will miss you. And to anyone who happens to be reading this, please know that you are loved and you are not alone. Always remember that.”
