Lionel Messi delighted fans in Major League Soccer (MLS) just days after his farewell match for the Argentina national team. Four days after his emotional goodbye on home soil, Messi scored twice for Inter Miami against DC United in a 4-0 victory.

His close friend Luis Suárez also scored twice, CE Report quotes STA.

Messi has now scored 23 goals for Miami this season, putting him at the top of the MLS scoring charts. The victory was particularly important for his team, which had managed just one win in its previous 10 matches before the international break.

The win allowed Inter Miami to retain second place in the Eastern Conference behind Nashville and remain on course for the playoffs. A defeat would have dropped the team to fifth place. League leaders Nashville won 4-1 away at Austin.

Among the Slovenian players in MLS, only David Brekalo featured. The centre-back played 83 minutes as Orlando defeated Columbus 3-2. Antoine Griezmann contributed a goal and an assist for Orlando.

Žan Kolmanič of Austin and Mitja Ilenič of New York City were absent from their respective squads due to injury and illness, while Markus Cimermančič was also unavailable for Toronto. Cimermančič made his debut for Slovenia's under-21 national team last week.
