Tupac Shakur murder case ends with guilty verdict for Duane Davis

Duane Keith Davis, the former leader of the South Side Compton Crips gang, was found guilty in a Las Vegas court of the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur.

The rapper's murder was reportedly linked to the beating of Davis' nephew, in which Shakur, also known as 2Pac, was involved, CE Report quotes STA.

Davis, who faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, announced after the verdict that he would appeal the decision, AFP reported.

According to prosecutors, Davis ordered Tupac's murder in an act of revenge after members of Shakur's entourage beat up his nephew in Las Vegas. "Duane Davis could not allow this in gang culture. So what did he do? He obtained a firearm, gathered his group and went hunting for Mr. Shakur," prosecutor Binu Palal said.

Shakur was shot from a white Cadillac. The prosecutor also told the Las Vegas trial that Davis did not pull the trigger himself, but handed the gun to a person sitting in the back seat of his car and ordered them to shoot the famous rapper.

One of the Most High-Profile Unsolved Cases Finally Solved

The murder of Shakur, who was 25 at the time and was known for hits including California Love and All Eyez on Me, had been considered one of the most high-profile unsolved cases in the United States.

The investigation stalled for decades due to a lack of evidence, but the case was revived following the publication of Davis' memoir in 2019. In the book, he described, among other things, sitting in the front passenger seat of the Cadillac and handing a gun to people in the back seats. Davis later changed his account and insisted that those claims were merely bragging and a product of his imagination intended to help boost book sales.
