Trump announces plans to establish US Space Academy
US President Donald Trump announced that they will establish a “US Space Academy” to support the country’s space exploration efforts.
US President Trump attended a ceremony held at the headquarters of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Houston, Texas, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.
Speaking at the ceremony, Trump emphasized that the United States still has many steps to take in space exploration and said that the US Space Force, whose establishment he spearheaded in 2019, is important in this regard.
Trump said that reaching the Moon is very important in space exploration but is not enough. He said he would sign an order today to establish a new academy called the “US Space Academy” in order to take the country’s space exploration efforts to a higher level.
Following the ceremony, Trump awarded the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor to the astronauts who took part in the Artemis II lunar mission. He described the first crewed mission to the Moon in nearly 50 years as a historic achievement for humanity.
The Artemis II crew, which began its mission on April 1, traveled approximately 1.118 million kilometers during its 10-day flight around Earth and the Moon.
The four-member crew tested the spacecraft’s systems throughout the mission, captured images of previously unseen areas of the Moon, and investigated potential landing sites for future missions.
