Colombian pop star Shakira said that her heart is with “everyone who felt this earthquake today,” after a powerful earthquake struck the country.

In a message posted on X, the singer wrote that “in moments like these, we Colombians know how to come together and support one another,” CE Report quotes ANSA.

“All my strength and love go to my homeland. Let’s embrace each other tightly and stay informed so that we can help as soon as possible,” she added.

The message came after a powerful 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia, causing widespread damage and triggering emergency rescue operations. Reports said rescuers and volunteers were searching through collapsed structures for survivors, while authorities assessed the extent of the destruction. The death toll has risen into the hundreds, with hundreds more people reported injured.

The earthquake affected several areas, including parts of Colombia's Pacific region and the Coffee Region. Images and videos shared after the quake showed buildings and infrastructure damaged by the intense shaking, while residents rushed to safety.

Emergency teams have been deployed to search for survivors and assist people whose homes were damaged or destroyed. Rescue efforts have been complicated by the scale of the destruction and concerns over further tremors.

Shakira, one of Colombia's best-known international artists, used her message to call for unity and urged Colombians to remain informed so that assistance could reach those affected as quickly as possible.
