Selena Gomez to star in new film by Brady Corbet
Selena Gomez is set to star in a new film by Brady Corbet titled “The Origin of the World,” which is currently in pre-production.
According to The InSneider, filming will last 50 days and will take place in Portugal and South Africa, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.
Notably, the script already runs to 200 pages, while Corbet’s previous film, The Brutalist (2024), which had a runtime of 3.5 hours, was based on a 150-page script. The director had previously stated that his new project would run for four hours and explore migration in Northern California over a span of 150 years, with a primary focus on the 1970s.
A few days ago, Corbet shared further details about the project, describing it as a western that will be shot on 70mm film. Speaking to Deadline, he said:
“My new film is, in some ways, about mysticism and the history of the occult in America. I’ve started collaborating with a fascinating individual, Mitch Horowitz, who is a historian of the occult.”
As reported by World of Reel, this will be Corbet’s fourth film, following The Childhood of a Leader, Vox Lux, and The Brutalist, which received ten Oscar nominations and won three. Daniel Blumberg will compose the score for “Origin,” which is expected to be released in 2027.
As for Gomez, who is nominated for an Emmy for Only Murders in the Building, she continues to take on ambitious film projects. Her collaboration with Corbet adds to an impressive list of directors she has worked with, including Woody Allen, Jim Jarmusch, Jacques Audiard, and Harmony Korine.
