Portuguese fado star Mariza will perform at Split's Meštrović Gallery on 27 August as part of the Vibrez Festival 2026, organised by the Hrvatski Dom Split cultural institution, which brings international artists to distinctive venues.

Mariza has successfully modernised fado while preserving its deep emotionality and tradition, at the same time introducing new musical layers, CE Report quotes HINA.

Her expression blends piano, Spanish flamenco guitar and Afro-Cuban percussion, while her repertoire incorporates elements of Brazilian samba, soul, jazz and flamenco.

The organisers emphasise that, despite her contemporary and innovative approach, her artistic identity remains firmly rooted in tradition. She grew up in the old quarters of Lisbon, where she sang fado in her parents’ restaurant, absorbing the classical repertoire that still forms the foundation of her work today.

For Mariza, fado is not a museum exhibit but a living form that she continually develops, interpreting traditional songs with equal conviction while exploring new musical directions, often flirting with pop and modern rhythms, all while maintaining an authentic Portuguese signature, the organisers note.
