Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791) was one of the greatest composers of European classical music and is considered a genius of the Classical period. Born in Salzburg, Austria, Mozart was a child prodigy: he began composing at the age of five and performing in public concerts from early childhood. During his short but extraordinarily prolific life, he composed more than 600 works, including symphonies, piano and violin concertos, chamber music, operas, and sacred music. Among his most famous operas are Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, and The Magic Flute.
