“Avatar: Fire and Ash” has surpassed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, retaining the top spot in North American theaters with an additional $40 million in revenue, according to industry estimates released on Sunday.

The third installment of director James Cameron’s blockbuster franchise has earned $306 million in the United States and Canada and an additional $777 million overseas, bringing its worldwide total to $1.08 billion, according to Exhibitor Relations, CE Report quotes ANSA.

“Fire and Ash” is Cameron’s fourth film to cross the $1 billion threshold, following the first “Avatar” film and “Titanic.”

In second place in North America was Disney’s Oscar-contending animated film “Zootropolis 2,” with $19 million in ticket sales. Its global total now stands at nearly $1.6 billion.

In third place, with $14.9 million, was Lionsgate’s “The Housemaid,” a film adaptation of the best-selling novel by Freida McFadden, telling the story of a young woman (Sydney Sweeney) hired by a wealthy couple (Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar) who harbor dark secrets.

As reported by CE Report, fourth place went to “Marty Supreme,” A24’s period sports drama starring Timothée Chalamet, which earned $12.6 million.

“Anaconda,” the new action comedy starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black as friends attempting to revive the original 1997 horror film, ranked fifth with $10 million.

Rounding out the top 10 were:
“SpongeBob: In Search of SquarePants” ($8.2 million),
“David” ($8 million),
“Song Sung Blue” ($5.8 million),
“Wicked: For Good” ($3.3 million),
and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” ($2.7 million).
