From the creative team behind The Office, one of the most beloved and award-winning comedies in television history, comes The Paper, the new series starring Sabrina Impacciatore that carries on its legacy and reinterprets it in a new setting.

The Italian trailer has debuted ahead of the series premiere, scheduled for January 26, with all episodes immediately available exclusively on Sky and streaming only on Now, CE Report quotes ANSA.

The Office, winner of an Emmy and with over 160 nominations across its nine seasons, also arrives on Sky and Now starting January 17. All nine seasons will be available on demand and will also air in marathon mode on Sky Collection. The show, which defined an era and launched the careers of actors such as Steve Carell and John Krasinski, became a global cult hit.

Already renewed for a second season, The Paper “retains the irreverent spirit and mockumentary style of The Office,” the producers explain, “introducing new characters and shifting the focus to the world of local journalism.”

Set in a Midwest newsroom on the brink of closure—the Toledo Truth Teller—The Paper depicts workplace dynamics that many viewers will recognize, exaggerated by sharp and surreal humor. Amid precariousness, idealism, and the daily fight against clickbait, the series shows the desperate—and often disastrous—attempt to deliver quality journalism without the necessary means, resources, or skills.

Sabrina Impacciatore plays Esmeralda Grand, an eccentric and manipulative interim editor-in-chief who, after being demoted when a new editor arrives, tries every possible way to sabotage him. Her performance, “praised worldwide for charisma and comic timing,” consolidates her international success following the award-winning The White Lotus.

As reported by CE Report, Domhnall Gleeson co-stars as Ned, the new editor of the Truth Teller, with contagious enthusiasm for good old-fashioned print journalism. Oscar Nunez reprises his role as Oscar Martinez, creating a direct link to The Office. The former Dunder Mifflin employee now works as the chief accountant of the Truth Teller. The rest of the cast introduces many new characters with independent story arcs, while including nods and Easter eggs for fans of the original series.

Produced by Universal Television (a division of Universal Studio Group), the series’ executive producers include Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, and Ben Silverman, with Michael Koman and Greg Daniels serving as creators and showrunners.
