Michelle Pfeiffer, 67, has revealed that she accidentally made Al Pacino bleed while auditioning for Brian De Palma’s Scarface 40 years ago, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The Grease 2 star recalled the events that led to the bloody incident during the September 29 episode of the SmartLess podcast, hosted by Sean Hayes, Jason Bateman, and Will Arnett.

Pfeiffer said she almost lost the role of Elvira Hancock because she was “terrified,” and her “bad” auditions alongside Pacino (who played Tony Montana) were “getting worse and worse.”

“Fear is the worst. It’s an actor’s enemy. It completely undermines you. So, as disappointed as I was, I was just glad it was over,” she said.

However, Pfeiffer was called back a month later for a screen test — during which she accidentally cut Pacino’s finger, causing a bloody mess.

“I show up, and I don’t even care because I know I’m not getting the part,” said the Batman Returns star.

“It was my best work, of course. I slide the table, dishes and glasses go flying, everything breaks. Blood everywhere. I didn’t cut myself — I cut Al Pacino. I thought, ‘Well, that’s the end of that.’”

Pacino, however, wasn’t upset — and Pfeiffer speculated that the incident might actually have helped her land what became her breakout role.

“I think that was the day he said, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah… she’s not bad,’” Pfeiffer joked, adding that the experience taught her not to overthink auditions.

Pfeiffer also opened up about the 1983 film’s intensity, recalling the “really intense” six months of filming.

“I had no idea it would become such a cultural phenomenon,” said Pfeiffer, who was just 23 at the time.

She added that apart from her and co-star Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Gina Montana), the Scarface set was dominated by “gangster guys,” who “pretty much stayed in character the whole time.”

That atmosphere left the future Golden Globe winner — who later married producer David Kelley in 1993 — feeling frightened and inadequate.

“I just didn’t have much experience and I was terrified. Every night I was scared. I didn’t feel worthy. I didn’t feel I had the right skills. I had no experience behind me. I had no confidence,” Pfeiffer admitted.

Despite her fears, Pfeiffer’s portrayal of Elvira Hancock helped launch her Hollywood career. She went on to earn Oscar nominations for Dangerous Liaisons (1988), The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989), and Love Field (1992).
