Dali exhibition in Italy hit by art fraud investigation
Last Saturday saw the opening of the exhibition "Dalì: Between Art and Myth" at Palazzo Tarasconi in Parma, CE Report quotes ANSA.
However, this morning, the Carabinieri Art Crime Unit from Rome carried out a raid, seizing 21 works suspected to be fake and wrongly attributed to Salvador Dalí.
The investigation is being coordinated by the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office. The seizure order was issued by a preliminary investigation judge at the request of prosecutors from the department handling widespread and serious crime, as the artworks — including tapestries, drawings, engravings, and various objects — were suspected of being falsely presented and exhibited as originals.
Authorities had already noticed irregularities during a previous exhibition under the same title at a museum in Rome. The investigation was sparked by a report from the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, the institution responsible for managing and protecting the artist’s intellectual property worldwide. The foundation had raised serious concerns about the authenticity of the works.
