Taylor Swift to wed Travis Kelce at Rhode Island’s holiday house
As the backdrop to their wedding, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are said to have chosen her Atlantic Ocean villa in Rhode Island.
This was reported to Page Six by a friend of the couple, CE Report quotes ANSA.
“They will get married next summer, she’s in a hurry to have children,” the source told the gossip column of the New York Post.
Taylor bought the villa in Watch Hill, an exclusive resort town on the coast north of Connecticut, in 2013, and she enshrined it in the song The Last Great American Dynasty on her 2020 album Folklore. The lyrics tell the story of the home’s former owner, the heiress who in 1947 married Standard Oil billionaire William Hale Harkness, and who scandalized locals with her wild parties — including filling the swimming pool with champagne.
The villa, named Holiday House, is the most expensive in Rhode Island: Taylor, who at the time paid over $17 million, has used it for some famous 4th of July parties attended by stars like Selena Gomez, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Gigi Hadid, and the Haim sisters. In 2016, it was at Watch Hill that Swift showcased her love story with British actor Tom Hiddleston, who was photographed on one of Holiday House’s terraces wearing a T-shirt reading “I love TS,” which immediately went viral.
While other celebrity weddings have caused more problems than anything else for locals — Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s celebrations in Venice sparked protests — Rhode Island would welcome the Swift-Kelce nuptials with open arms.
“We have some of the best wedding venues in the world. That’s all I’ll say,” commented Governor Dan McKee after the engagement announcement.
The small state would see a significant economic boost if it hosted the wedding, although it has already benefited from perhaps its most famous part-time resident. This year, Rhode Island introduced a tax on luxury second homes, quickly nicknamed the “Taylor Swift tax.” According to CNBC, the billionaire singer will have to pay an additional $136,000 for a house she rarely occupies.
Holiday House is one of several properties in the singer’s real estate portfolio: Taylor also owns homes in Beverly Hills, New York, and Tennessee, collectively valued at $80 million.
