Culture Ministry, BNR Push Music Funding Reform

The Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) have launched a joint effort to develop a sustainable funding model for BNR’s state radio music ensembles, the Ministry announced Thursday, CE Report quotes BTA

During recent meetings, including one on June 25 between Deputy Culture Minister Georgi Sultanov and BNR Director General Milen Mitev, officials discussed legislative amendments aimed at improving working conditions for BNR ensemble members.

BNR hosts some of Bulgaria’s most prominent music groups, including the Symphony Orchestra, Big Band, Folk Orchestra, Mixed Choir, Children’s Choir, and Radiokids.

Talks also addressed preserving BNR’s Golden Fund, which contains music, interviews, and National Assembly sound archives dating back to 1989.

Both institutions emphasized the need for equal treatment of state radio musicians and other performers in public cultural institutions.
