On behalf of President Rumen Radev, Bulgarian Vice President Iliana Iotova awarded Prof. Alexander Naumov the Order of SS Cyril and Methodius, Second Class, during a ceremony at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow on Tuesday, CE Report quotes BTA

The distinguished Polish Slavist was recognized for his outstanding contributions to Old Bulgarian literature, education, and the promotion of Bulgarian culture. The event also marked 50 years since Prof. Naumov received his doctoral degree.

Vice President Iotova praised Naumov as a leading expert in medieval literature and biblical translations, highlighting his anthology on Saints Cyril and Methodius published in Polish. "There is no better connoisseur of biblical elements in medieval texts," she said.

Earlier that day, Iotova met with Jagiellonian University Rector Prof. Piotr Jedynak to discuss deepening Bulgarian-Polish academic ties and the future of Slavic studies. She emphasized Bulgaria's role as a natural hub for Slavic scholarship and expressed hope to revive interest in the humanities.
