A report detailing the history, current state, and future of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) archives was presented during a two-day scientific conference titled "Future in the Trap of the Carbon Past" at Paisii Hilendarski University of Plovdiv, CE Report quotes BTA

Desislava Sevova, Director of the Archives and References Directorate at BTA, outlined the agency’s origins in 1898, when it began as a telegraphic service for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Her presentation traced the development of BTA through its first bulletins, directors, and legislative framework to its modern-day operations.

Sevova described the structure and organization of BTA’s archives, including various types of collections and their contents. She highlighted the creation of the Archives and References Directorate—the first specialized unit for managing preservation, digitization, and access to archival documents.

BTA is participating in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan through the "Digitization of Museum Collections, Libraries and Archives" initiative. The agency’s archival collections are being digitized in phases, with completion targeted for 2026. A unified software platform will be developed to enhance search and access across all participating institutions.
