The Great Ambition (Berlinguer: La grande ambizione), a co-production involving Bulgaria, won two David di Donatello Awards at Rome's Cinecittà studios—Best Leading Actor (Elio Germano) and Best Editing, CE Report quotes BTA

The film portrays the life of Enrico Berlinguer, iconic leader of Italy's Communist Party in the 1970s. Bulgarian actors Svetoslav Dobrev and Nikolay Danchev appear as Todor Zhivkov and Leonid Brezhnev, respectively.

Produced by Italy, Belgium, and Bulgaria, the film was co-produced by Bulgarian company Agitprop with support from RAI Cinema, the EU, and multiple cultural institutions.
