Famed Macedonian Artist Shifts Style with Memory-Drawn Portraits

Culture

An exhibition of pencil portraits drawn by renowned Macedonian painter Rodoljub Anastasov between 2016 and 2022 will open Tuesday evening at Gevgelija's Amam art gallery. "This series of drawings is a turning point for the artist," organizers said, CE Report quotes MIA.

The small pencil and colored pencil drawings "show us a completely different Anastasov, one that we would not expect given his decades-long complete dedication to his favorite cycle 'Man and Space,' which brought him international fame," according to organizers.

The artist drew the portraits from memory, they add. "It is a rationally conceived art project, although it arose from dramatic events and situations in the artist's life that happened in 2008."

The exhibit was curated by Jasminka Namicheva as a Museum Link collaboration between Arhifakt association and the Gevgelija National Museum.

Titled "Visions: A Head Full of People," the art display is part of Gevgelija City of Culture 2025 series of cultural happenings.
