Slovenian musicians demand Israel Eurovision ban

Slovenian musicians demand Israel Eurovision ban

Culture

More than 50 Slovenian musicians, including several former Eurovision contestants, have signed a petition calling for a ban on Israel's participation in this year's Eurovision song contest amidst continued Israeli attacks on Gaza.

They have called on public broadcaster RTV Slovenija, which manages Slovenia's participation, to demand that Israel be banned, and to withdraw from Eurovision if this does not happen, CE Report quotes The Slovenia Times.

The signatories include former Eurovision contestants Maja Keuc, LPS and Zala Kralj of the zalagasper duo, and several other prominent musicians and bands.

The petition has been launched by the Movement for the Rights of Palestinians, a groups that has for months organised protests in support of Palestine and demanded action against Israel from the Slovenian authorities.

The signatories say that "Israel's participation in the Eurovision Song Contest violates several Eurovision and European Broadcasting Union (EBU) rules," and that Israel has broken multiple EBU rules over the years.

RTV Slovenija is yet to respond to the petition.
