German Trio Abstrakt Performs at Ruse's March Music Days
The March Music Days festival continued with a captivating performance by the German Trio Abstrakt in Ruse on Wednesday. Composer Bozhidar Spasov praised the festival for its rare ability to blend various genres and eras, from classical to contemporary music, CE Report quotes BTA
Spasov, who has had many works performed worldwide, highlighted Ruse as a unique venue where his music is often featured, thanks to the festival and the Contemporary Music Ensemble. He also stressed the need for more contemporary classical music in Bulgaria, where pre-World War II compositions dominate concert programs.
The concert featured a premiere of Spasov’s new works, Cherubic Song for Dragomir, dedicated to the late Dragomir Yosifov, and The Salamander Song, composed specifically for Trio Abstrakt. The performers, saxophonist Salim Javaid, pianist Marlies Debaker, and percussionist Alexandre Silva, noted that Spasov’s colorful compositions were a joy to play.
Additionally, a book on Spasov's musical creativity, The Musical Creativity of Bozhidar Spasov as a Reflection of Eastern and Western European Musical Traditions, was launched before the concert. Written by Maria Kostakeva, it was published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing in honor of Spasov's 75th anniversary.
March Music Days, one of Bulgaria’s premier cultural events, continues to showcase world-class artists and enrich the city's cultural landscape.
