The 10th Summer Opera Season Stage of the Ages opened on June 27 at the historic Tsarevets Hill in Veliko Tarnovo with Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, presented by the local Music and Drama Theatre, CE Report quotes BTA

The medieval fortress was transformed into an elegant 18th-century Spanish castle with the help of 3D mapping, elaborate rococo costumes, and detailed set design. Tenor Nikola Ivanov and soprano Teodora Petrova led the cast under director Petko Bonev, who recreated an atmosphere of aristocratic intrigue.

Following the opera, spectators enjoyed Veliko Tarnovo’s iconic Sound and Light Show.

Running until October 4, the festival will feature 15 performances—opera, ballet, symphonic music, and musicals—across three city venues. This year marks the event’s 40th anniversary, with participation from opera theatres across Bulgaria.

Organized by Veliko Tarnovo Municipality, with support from the Regional Museum of History and the Tourist Information Centre, the festival holds the EFFE Label for distinguished European arts events. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is a media partner and recently signed an agreement to promote the city’s cultural calendar.
